Welcome to the Northern Cape…

The Northern Cape is South Africa’s largest province, framed by Calvinia in the south, Springbok and Port Nolloth in the west, Upington and Kuruman in the north, and Hopetown and De Aar in the east. The region is a semi-desert, yet the ‘Green Kalahari’ in the west and north, also known as the Namakwa section, brings forth explosive displays of wildflowers from late July to November. On the other hand, dramatic thunderstorms boom across the vast plains, annual rainfall is unreliable, and temperatures range from 37 degrees Celsius in summer to -6 degrees Celsius in winter.

The Tankwa-Karoo National Park, the Namaqua National Park, the Geogap Nature Reserve, and the Augrabies Falls National Park have varying topography, good game sightings, and unique flora. Although this region has diverse cultures of frontier history and brave missionaries, it also boasts countless challenges for adrenaline junkies, hikers, mountain bikers, and 4×4 adventurers.

Priding itself on maximum flexibility, guests of Tswalu have a personal consultation on arrival. Activities are unique, fun, and captivating. They include daily game drives in the morning, afternoon, or evening, walking safaris, night walking safaris, tracking desert-adapted Black Rhino, horseback safaris (accompanied by an equestrian guide with expert tuition if required), bonding with the meerkat colony, sleep-outs under the stars on the Malori Sleep Out Deck, walk to ancient archaeological sites of Bushman rock carvings, tours of the staff village and the sensual Tswalu Kalahari Spa with indoor and outdoor treatments. In addition, the Kalahari has unique wildlife and dazzling panoramas, creating endless spectacular photographic opportunities. TSWALU LOAPI TENTED CAMP

Welcome to the Greater Kruger National Park

As you bump along the park roads, the sun warm upon your face and air dry in the back of your throat, your senses are on high alert. This is the real Africa, cut away from the hectic pace of life, home to Africa’s Big 5. The Kruger is alive, from the nervously twitching herd of impala after a night of predator action to the wild dog cavorting like domestic pets alongside the road. Marvel as a herd of elephants simply appear from out the bush, then silently vanish back into the landscape.

With over 2 million hectares of pristine wilderness, the Kruger’s biodiversity sustains numerous game species and birds. The dry north consists of Baobab trees, scrubland, and rocky outcroppings, which can be seen for miles, and animals tend to gather around water sources. As you come south, the park gets busier, animal numbers increase, and the backdrop changes to grassland and acacia woodlands.

On the western borders, private reserves such as Sabi Sands and the Timbavati open onto the Kruger, offering an exclusive game experience with the flexibility of night drives and off-road 4 x 4 safaris. Swaying to the movement of an open vehicle while wrapped warmly against the night chills is an unforgettable experience. The call of a Nightjar darting overhead and the flash of eyes reflected from the bushes brings an entirely different twist to your safari. As you drop your head back and look up – the crisp night skies go on forever.

In his search for “the Smoke that Thunders,” David Livingstone discovered one of the most majestic sights in the world, and to this day, the spectacular Victoria Falls has the power to leave man speechless with its beauty. So beside this World Heritage Site, the quaintly colonial Livingstone Town was born. As a popular entry point into Zambia, it offers the intrepid traveler an adventure destination and an ideal jumping-off point to some of the most untouched game parks available.

Livingstone provides the same escapades which make Victoria Falls so appealing: heart-stopping white-water rafting and bungee jumping, elephant back safaris and walks with lions, and glorious aircraft flips over the falls. In addition, the sprawling town of Livingstone is home to vibrant markets and museums dedicated to the local culture, history, and rich railway heritage.

Enjoys dinners to the sounds of the African evening by candlelight in the open-air dining tent, by starlight on the deck, by campfire light deep in the bush, or by lantern light in the privacy of your own deck. Lunches can be taken on a sandbank in the Zambezi River, with the water lapping at your feet. End the days with sundowners watching the sun set over the Zambezi escarpment from the deck or overlooking the river or open plains. Each meal will bring surprises and memories to cherish.
