Costa Rica The Indigenous Trails, La Nueva Pura Vida President’s Pick
The term “Ecotourism” was defined in many key locations, and Costa Risa is paramount among them. Ever since my first visit at the age of 14, I always imagined that there was more to Costa Rica than what we see today, repeated repeatedly in many tours on the market, and so, it’s with an inner child vision that we are introducing the Indigenous Trail of Costa Rica. La Nueva Pura Vida.

Today, you will be visiting the Madre Tierra Farm! Coffee, Sugarcane, Vegetables, and much more are seen in how it’s cultivated… Depending on what activities are happening on your day at the farm, you could be milking cows for the first time, watching how cheese is made, picking coffee beans, or straining sugar cane for a sweet post-hike drink. Madre Tierra was the first carbon-neutral farm in the country, and the Belmar family’s dedication to sustainability and preservation of the environment.
During this journey, you will also be part of their Gastronomy Program, learning about what Costa Rican Farm-to-Table is all about while taking you to the organic garden only a few meters away from the Restaurante Celajes. Here, you will learn about the techniques used to responsibly practice organic agriculture fertility through composting, low-impact farming, and cooking methods like their smoker. Finally, you will indulge in a special menu *Including a side, main dish, and dessert prepared with freshly harvested ingredients. Created for the entire family.

Santa Teresa is somewhat of a remote stretch of the Nicoya Peninsula, lined with tropical jungle that splashes onto its long white-sand beaches resembling the Pacific Coast. This area is one of those spots most Costarricans grew up visiting, with its pristine beaches and small fishing towns taken over by surfers that give off an incomparable feeling of being at a perfect beach community where everyone chills and enjoys the Pura Vida lifestyle.
This area is one of those spots that reminds you of the Pacific Coast and that most Costarricans grew up visiting: pristine beaches, small fishing towns taken over by surfers, and just that incomparable great feeling of being at a perfect beach community where everyone is just chilling and enjoying the Pura Vida lifestyle. This tiny and one-time best-kept secret of the Pacific coast has seen a booming increase in visitors that end up becoming locals as they fall in love with the place, making it one of the most cosmopolitan beach towns in Costa Rica where both celebrities and modern-day gypsies have found a spot to settle down for a while.

Day 8: Santa Teresa Beach
Curú Wildlife Refuge
This is the first Wildlife Refuge established in Costa Rica in 1983. This farm-style refuge combines sustainable land use so wildlife and humans can interact in the same space. The different ecosystems found in Curú give this area a variety of species that are generally easy to spot along the trails. Varied wildlife in the Reserve will allow the opportunity to possibly see hauler monkeys, white face monkeys, a wide variety of birds, agoutis, and other animals. Perfect for those who enjoy bird watching and love nature. After this walk, you will have time to relax on the beach and after, if you like, do some kayaking. Pasha Beachfront House (B)
Day 9: Santa Teresa Beach
Bioluminescence Experience
Take your day at leisure to enjoy the beach, go surfing, or rent a bike and discover the beaches in the area, and at dusk, enjoy the bioluminescence experience. There are few places in the world where you can experience bioluminescence throughout the year. And fortunately for travelers to the Nicoya Peninsula, here is one such place. Bioluminescence is a magical show created by living organisms through a chemical reaction, natural light.
In the gulf, it’s the algae that create this magical effect. When disturbed, the algae emit a burst of light. Since there are millions of them, they look like sparks in the water. The wavelengths are blue to green in the area and, depending on the number of algae, will appear as bluish or greenish flashes.
Snorkeling is one of the best ways to see this phenomenon; wearing these masks, you’ll swim around stars, which is a great way to get a good look at it. The fish will swim rapidly and look like underwater fireworks as they take off, leaving a trail of “fairy dust” in their wake. The guide will fully instruct you on the safety and issues of snorkeling at night and teach you all about this biological show while enjoying the relaxing ride.
This tour takes place at Playa Los Vivos (1 hour away). Before the light fades away, you’ll be able to navigate, spotting wildlife in the mangrove. When the bay gets dark enough, you’ll be ready to experience a unique biological show you’ll remember for a lifetime. Pasha Beachfront House (B)
Day 10: Costa Rica Depart
After breakfast, it’s time to say “Adios” goodbye. Today, you will be transferred to the Tambor’s airstrip, and from there, you can fly to San Jose or Liberia International Airport and connect with your international flight. (B)
