Study Tour for Professionals – Kenya

I thoroughly loved every aspect of this Study Tour. We were asked to bring our sense of adventure. Despite encountering some bad weather (fully expected for travel in November), it made for a fun and spontaneous adventure. I felt the entire tour was well planned and executed. It was obvious that a great deal of effort went into providing our group with a genuine Kenyan experience – from the lunch/turned into dinner affair at the Mint Shack to the meeting with the Sera Wildlife Conservancy in Samburu not to mention the private tour of the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. If this is how all client itineraries are handled, keep it up.

I particularly appreciated the personal interest the President takes in the comfort and enjoyment of Big Five’s guests. Yes, we were on an advisor familiarisation trip with the President of the company and the Manager of operations in Nairobi, but I felt that the invested interest they displayed in our experience would be apparent in all Big Five itineraries…I got an indirect glimpse of this with guests in Tanzania. I’ve heard from others how good Big Five is and I was able to experience it first hand. All travel operations, whether adventure or not need to be as involved as Big Five.  Although I haven’t yet booked travel arrangements with Big Five (presently working on changing that), you have without a doubt earned my trust. I am truly impressed by Big Five’s ground support in the destination as well as the President’s genuine desire to curate and deliver amazing travel experiences for our clients.

I love taking photographs. Kenya offers visitors amazing photographic opportunities. However, travel is so much more than a Facebook or Instagram post. I appreciate travel opportunities where I get to meet the local people. This experience gave us such a personal, life-changing experience with the Sera Wildlife Conservancy. We were able to learn firsthand about a movement critical to the survival of endangered wildlife. We met community members dedicated to saving rhinos. We had an opportunity to discuss with them the importance of their work and the importance of donations such as the generous donation by Big Five. This was real and this was unscripted. Sadly, they don’t currently receive funding from the Government, so it was important to see how our efforts to include tourism experiences such as the rhino tracking directly benefits the local community, the wildlife and in turn provides our clients with a greater understanding of wildlife conservation.
