Day 1: Bogota, Colombia
Welcome to Colombia! On arrival in Bogota, clear immigration, collect luggage and proceed through customs to the arrivals hall where you are met by our representative, who transfers you to your hotel to begin your honeymoon adventure. In one of Bogotá’s premium neighborhoods, Quinta Camacho, the hotel is surrounded by great restaurants, cafés, galleries and shops. Day 2: Bogota
After an early breakfast, join your guide for a visit to the Paloquemao Market, a playground for foodies, where the produce of the Caribbean and Pacific coasts, the fertile Andes, and the tropical jungle merge. The market is divided into sections: flowers; fruit; vegetables; aromatic herbs; meat and fish. Here you can taste the weird and wonderful and enjoy the fragrance of exotic blooms. Then, set out to explore Colombia´s capital by bike. The city has more than 180 miles of bike paths especially designed for leisure, recreational and sport cycling. This is an ecological alternative to move around the city and to understand it from a different perspective, enjoy the architecture, parks, landscape, and iconic districts of the city. Bike through the Candelaria neighborhood, the historical center, el Chorro de Quevedo and Bolivar Square. During the ride, your guide will explain the significance of the places you visit, including the history and graffiti culture. You can stop at the Gold Museum to discover an extraordinary collection of gold from indigenous cultures, or take in the Botero Museum, a must-see for art enthusiasts to view the private collection of the Colombian artist, Fernando Botero.

Then, trade the bike for a cable car ride to the top of Monserrate. Stop for a delicious lunch surrounded by the panoramic views of the entire city from one side and the Andean mountain range from the other.  Casa Legado – Natalia Room (B,L)

Day 3: Bogota / Villa De Leyva
After breakfast, you are transferred three hours north of Bogota to Villa de Leyva, one of the area’s most beautiful towns. It was founded in 1572 by Hernàn Suàrez de Villalobos, who named this town after Andrès Dìas Venero de Leyva, the first president of Nueva Granada.  Upon arrival, you will check in at your hotel, the result of the restoration of three adjoining houses, which allowed the preservation of the original colonial construction. It is located within the old town, in the Plaza de Nariño, one of the most important squares of Villa de Leyva.

Explore the city, a colonial jewel with an enormous plaza surrounded by Spanish-style houses, small alleyways, cobblestone streets and the 17th-century parochial church.  Stop at the Museo El Fósil, founded in 1977 and built on the site where a Kronosaurus, an extinct marine reptile, was discovered.  It was among the largest pliosaurs found and likely dates back more than 120 million years.  Continue to the Convento del Santo Ecce Homo, located 13 kilometers/eight miles from Villa de Leyva in the municipality of Sutamarchan. This convent was established in 1620 by the Dominicans, who were the first Europeans sent to try to convert the indigenous community.  Restored in 1965, it is one of Colombia´s national sites of cultural interest and a jewel of colonial architecture with a collection of religious artifacts and paintings from the colonial era.

Return to your hotel for dinner.  The Hotel La Posada de San Antonio was born on the initiative of a family of hoteliers in Villa de Leyva introduced the concept of personalized service. Day 4: Villa De Leyva / Barichara
After breakfast, you are transferred 4.5 hours to your hotel in Barichara. You will have the opportunity to make stops to stretch, taking pictures or just to enjoy the beautiful views along the way. Upon arrival, you check in at your hotel, a carefully curated collection of private villas in “La Loma” neighborhood, the most exclusive zone of Barichara. Day 5: Barichara
After an early breakfast, you travel about 50 minutes to Chicamocha National Park in the municipality of Aratoca. With more than 270,000 acres, Chicamocha Canyon is one of the largest in the world. It was formed 46 million years ago where there was once a huge lake, allowing the formation of caverns that housed marine animals. Fossils are still found today. Here you will join a certified paragliding instructor for a thrilling tandem flight.  Takeoff begins at the top of this majestic canyon where flight conditions are ideal for soaring on hot air currents. After that exciting adventure, enjoy a picnic lunch in the valley with wonderful view.  Yahri Hotel Boutique (B,D)

Day 6: Barichara
This morning you set out to San Gil, about a 75-minute drive, for a rafting adventure on the Suarez River, a world-class rafting destination. Considered one of the best in South America for its rapids, the river travels through the varied landscape of the Suarez Canyon and offers a high dose of adrenaline. After receiving the guide’s instructions, you will head to the river for a two-hour rafting experience along 15 km/9 miles of shoreline with rapids that vary from III to V. Day 7: Barichara
Today explore three traditional towns in the Department of Santander. You will begin in San Gil, Colombia’s capital for extreme sports. After a walk through its Main Square, continue 15-minutes on a paved road to Curiti, best known for weavers and artisans that design typical handicrafts using the local fique fiber – an ecological alternative to plastic. Among other attractions in the area are the caves of Yeso and La Vaca, great for intense spelunking experiences.

A bit further afield is the village of Guane, a 15-minute drive or two-hour walk from Barichara, that is home to the Archaeological and Paleontological Museum. Return to Barichara, a national monument and Colombia’s most beautiful town. For those interested in art, the Jorge Delgado Sierra Arts Park is an open-air museum located next to the Santa Barbara Chapel at the top of Barichara overlooking the mountains and the Suárez River Canyon. As you stroll along its cobbled streets and admire the whitewashed homes adorned with cascading bougainvillea and centuries-old churches. Savor dinner tonight in town.  Yahri Hotel Boutique (B,D)

Day 8: Barichara / Medellin / Marinilla
This morning you are transferred to San Gil to board your charter flight to Bucaramanga where you will connect with a commercial flight to Medellin.  On arrival, collect your luggage and proceed to the arrivals hall where you are met by a driver who assists with your luggage, and escorts to the waiting vehicle for the 45-minute transfer to your lodge in Marinilla.

Day 9: Marinilla
Today you are in for a treat with a private cooking lesson with Cannúa´s executive and/or sous chefs to explore the cuisine, flavors and ingredients from the region. Nothing in Colombia would be complete without a cup of Colombian coffee for which it is famous the world over. It is the most popular export. And with good reason, for it some of the world’s best coffee. You join a coffee tasting with coffee from one of the most award-winning farms in Colombia. In this short, interactive workshop, you’ll learn about the history of coffee, what makes coffee good or bad, and you learn how to make a perfect cup of coffee to impress your friends and family back home! Enjoy three distinct preparations of coffee (Chemex, French Press, and Syphon) that teach you about the differences in aroma and taste of some of the best coffees you can drink in Medellín.  Cannua Lodge – Cabana Jr. Suite (B,L,D)

Day 10: Marinilla
This morning, after breakfast you prepare for a hike from Cannúa on a genuine pre-Hispanic, indigenous “Royal Trail” that begins from the hotel’s grounds. Over the next 15 kilometers/just over nine miles, you hike over two mountains and along several back roads through charming farms growing products from flowers and tomatoes, to peppers and exotic fruits. Along the way, you’ll see tropical birds and meet some of the nicest people anywhere.

Stop to enjoy a traditional, Colombian picnic lunch known as a fiambre, typical food wrapped and cooked inside a giant leaf. Savor your lunch at a 210-foot waterfall. After lunch, you can repel down and cool off in the water before continuing the hike. You finally arrive at the town of El Peñol before returning to Cannúa and your hotel to refresh and rest.

Tonight, weather permitting, you set out on a nocturnal adventure with a head lamp. In the company of hotel staff, hike up the mountain to identify nocturnal creatures and savor an incredible view of the stars. Moderate difficulty. Cannua Lodge – Cabana Jr. Suite (B,L,D)

Day 11: Marinilla / Medellin / Cartagena
Today you transfer to the Medellin airport to check in for your flight to Cartagena. On arrival, collect your luggage and proceed to the arrivals hall where you are met by a representative who assists with the luggage and escorts to the waiting vehicle for transfer to your hotel.

Cartagena was one of the most important historic Spanish ports in America.  It was one of the first cities to declare its independence, fight for its freedom, and endowed with the title of “La Heróica” (The Heroic City).  It is the capital city of the Department of Bolivar, with a perfect mix of colonial and modern elements. Inside the city walls, both sides of the narrow streets are adorned with antique doorways, flower-filled balconies, restaurants and hotels.  The Walled City was declared a Colombian National Heritage in 1959 by UNESCO, and Mankind’s Heritage in 1984.

Day 12: Cartagena
This morning you enjoy your first gastronomy experience in Cartagena. Cartagena de Indias is a blend of history, culture, and flavors culled from a combination of Spanish colonization, African slavery and the 19th century migrations. On this half-day street food tour, you stroll the streets of Cartagena to sample a few of the original recipes that have inspired the new Colombian cuisine. This is one of the best ways to gain insight into the daily life and culture of the people. You will be accompanied by a food concierge who will show you to the ten must-see places in the historic center as well as take you to seven kitchens where you sample ten jewels (snacks and drinks), complimented with a refreshing local beer. Prepare traditional fried foods guided by native cooks and meet traditional chefs.

This afternoon, you are transferred to the small fishing village of La Boquilla.  Although connected to one of the most touristy cities in Colombia, here you will experience authenticity and see a less privileged part of society. Visit the village’s music school to listen and learn about the Caribbean coast’s rhythms inherited from African traditions.  Listen to the different rhythms presented by young talented locals and you have to chance to join in on a chosen instrument for a shared moment with the local musicians. Amarla Boutique Hotel – The Heron & Parakeet Duplex (B, tasting)

Day 13: Cartagena
Early this morning, explore Bazurto, the city’s largest food market where you can find all the fresh products available in the Caribbean region. Try some of the exotic fruits in the company of your expert guide, known to the vendors, through this area as they welcome him to their barrio.

Late afternoon join your guide for the ten-minute walk to the Rum Box in Getsemani, which seduces with its lounge atmosphere, gourmet food with Caribbean ingredients, tropical fruits, and the choicest variety of first-class rums. The cocktail bar and menu were created by owner and host, Abraham Dau, one of Colombia’s best bartenders and an expert in rum. The tasting begins with a mini welcome cocktail, followed by a mixture of Colombian rum, aguardiente and rum infusions; some paired with different kinds of Colombian chocolate. Day 14: Cartagena / Rosario Islands
This morning you are transferred to the Nautical Club pier to board your private yacht for a new adventure. After you are welcomed onboard, the navigation begins to La Boquilla, an untouched natural side of Colombia’s Caribbean coast. During this birdwatching excursion, you explore the mangroves where the native and migratory birds are most active. Your local guide points out the variety of birds who inhabit this area and explain the importance of the swamps in maintaining a healthy balance of life.

Continue through la Ciénaga de Los Vasquez in search of more birdwatching opportunities. After lunch onboard, cruise to the Rosario Islands, one of the most important coral reefs of the Colombian Caribbean coast. The remainder of the day is at leisure, or you have the option to explore Isla Grande with a local guide (additional cost). The evening savor a sundowner before dinner.  Your day ends at Caño Ratón, where after dark, you can admire the illuminated plankton in the lagoon.  Onboard (B,L,D)

Day 15: Rosario Islands / Baru
This morning, set sail from Isla Grande to Isla Arena where you can swim, snorkel, and lounge on the beach. Stop for a tropical lunch at Majagua Hotel and take some time to relax before cruising to Baru for an afternoon. Tonight, enjoy dinner at Aura restaurant. Onboard (B,L,D)

Day 16: Baru / Cartagena / Depart
Today you return to Cartagena where you are met and transferred to the airport to check-in for your international flight. (B)
