Australia is roughly equivalent to the U.S. in size, with many variations in climate. Summer, the rainy season in the tropical north, lasts December to February. November to March is hottest. Spring and autumn are mild and the best time for bush walks. Winter, June to August, is mild with snow in southern mountains and balmy temperatures in the north. In general, April to September temperatures are between 18°C/66 °F and 31°C/88°F. September and October are warm but not extremely hot.

Day 1:  Arrive Darwin, Australia
Welcome to Northern Australia’s Top End!  Upon arrival at Darwin Airport, you will be met by your private car and driver from Big Five Tours & Expeditions who will give you your travel documentation and transfer you to Mantra Pandanas, which has a studio, one and two bedroom apartments complimented with a full menu of luxurious hotel services.  The 26-floor building in the heart of Darwin’s downtown offers spectacular views of the harbor.  It has a restaurant, day spa, concierge and room service as well as a swimming pool and gym.  The remainder of the day is free to relax or explore on your own.  More than 50 cultures live harmoniously in Darwin, each contributing to the city’s character, culinary offerings and colorful markets.  Add to this a rich history that encompasses traditional aboriginal land holders, the discovery of gold in the 1800s, and city’s time spent as a major allied military base during World War II.  A number of spectacular day trip destinations include the cool clear pools of the Litchfield National Park and the spectacular Katherine Gorge.  Mantra Pandanas – One-Bedroom Water View Apartment

Day 2:  Darwin – Tiwi Islands
Today, your private car and driver take you to Darwin Airport for a 30-minutes scenic flight to Bathurst Island, where you are joined by your local guide and a small group for a journey through the progressive, modern day Aboriginal community of Nguiu.  Visit the museum with its interesting displays of traditional art and depictions of the Tiwi ‘dreamtime’ stories and Early Mission Precinct with its unique Tiwi-Style Catholic Church.  Learn about the colorful history of the early mission days and how the Tiwi people have blended their culture with Christianity.  Enjoy a stroll through arts and crafts centers and artists’ studios.  During morning tea spend time with some of the Tiwi women and enjoy billy tea and damper while they work on their weaving and painting.  They also demonstrate their totem dances and perform a smoking ceremony to bless the visitors.  Learn some of the complex rituals associated with the Pukamani (burial ceremony).  Set out for a scenic drive through the wilderness of Bathurst Island.  Enjoy lunch and visit a local waterhole for a swim.  Learn about traditional bush tuckers, bush medicine, natural fibers and dyes as you return to the airport for your return flight to Darwin.  Mantra Pandanas – One-Bedroom Water View Apartment (B,L)

Day 3:  Darwin / Swim Creek
This morning, you will be met by your private car and driver and transferred to Darwin General Aviation terminal for your onward private charter flight to Bamurru Plains on the coastal floodplains of the Mary River Delta just west of Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory.  Bamurru Plains is an exclusive, luxury camp with nine freestanding safari bungalows set in an extraordinary wilderness area.  A self-service bar with a selection of beverages is available to guests throughout the day and the resident chef provides contemporary Australian cuisine with hints of bush food and native produce.  Bamurru Plains – Safari Bungalow (B,L,D)

Day 4:  Swim Creek – Arnhem Land
After breakfast, set out with your guide for a full day on a small group trip of Arnhem Land’s escarpment country and ancient rock art, which offer a very authentic and intimate experience.  You will be transferred to the airport at Jabiru for your return flight to Bamarru via private charter in a single engine aircraft.  Bamurru Plains – Safari Bungalow (B,L,D)

Day 5:  Swim Creek
Today is at leisure.  During your time here, enjoy activities that focus on exploring the surrounding country.  Airboats take you deep into the wetlands, and river cruises go in search of crocodiles.  Bush drives and guided walks reveal the landscapes and wildlife of the region.  On an optional tour, you can take a short flight to the escarpment to encounter and learn about the Kakadu’s rich indigenous culture; a living cultural that has inhabited this land for tens of thousands of years.  Bamurru Plains – Safari Bungalow (B,L,D)

Day 6:  Swim Creek / Darwin
Today you will be escorted to your onward private charter flight to Darwin.  Upon arrival, you will be met by your private car and driver and transferred to you accommodation where the remainder of the day is at your leisure.  Mantra Pandanas – One-Bedroom Water View Apartment (B)

Day 7:  Darwin / Kununurra / The Kimberley

Day 8-9:  The Kimberley
Relax, enjoy an optional spa treatment, or simply savor your enchanting surroundings.  At El Questro Wilderness Park, the following optional activities are available:  cruise the Chamberlain Gorge, visit to El Questro Gorge, see Explosion Gorge followed by a sunset viewing, go Barramundi fishing, take in Zebedee Springs thermal pools, go on a horse trek in the bush, or spend a day with a ranger tracking local wildlife.  There are also scenic helicopter tours and scenic flights of Lake Argyle and the Bungle Bungles (additional costs apply to both).  El Questro Homestead – Chamberlain Gorge Room (B,L,D)

Day 10:  The Kimberley / Kununurra / Depart
This morning, you will be met at your accommodation by a representative of El Questro Wilderness Park and transferred to Kununurra Airport for your onward flight.  Upon arrival, connect with your flight home.  (B)
