We created this page as a place to honor those people who have, by their passions, impacted us in some way; either through their work, their lives and their ideals…  There are those special people who refuse to accept the way things are and have the courage to strive to create a world filled with the way things should be.

The first person we wish to pay tribute to is Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick, who died April 12, 2018 at age 83.  She and her husband, David, dedicated their lives to the care and protection of Africa’s wildlife. After her husband’s death, she founded The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which runs the Sheldrick Orphanage for orphan elephants and rhinos rescue and rehabilitation center in Kenya. Daphne was the first person to successfully hand raise new born elephants. but it took her 28 years of trial and error to develop the special milk formula to bottle feed baby elephants, making their survival possible. In honor of this remarkable woman, Big Five has fostered eight elephants, two rhinos and a giraffe. Meet these adoptees.
