When is the Best Time to Travel to Egypt?

Egypt is a very interesting country as it is a convergence of Asian and African cultures and boast a heritage of ancient grandeur and diverse languages. There are so many things to experience when visiting, so planning your trip during ideal times is very important.

Timing a trip can be very tricky. You will want to be able to take advantage of the lovely weather while avoiding the thickest crowds and high accommodation prices. Because of Egypt’s popularity and extreme climate, there is a window of time which you should visit the country. Unfortunately, because this is peak time, there will be more crowds and higher prices.

Summer in Upper Egypt can be troubling for those who are not accustomed to the desert heat. Cities like Luxor, Aswan, and Cairo can heat up to over 104 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat, dust, pollution and noise can be unbearable for some people. Summer is a great time to relax on the beaches of the Red Sea, the Alexandrian Coast or Sinai. Universities and schools will have let out and most Egyptians try to take their vacations. Visitors from the neighboring countries stop over to escape from the relatively mile temperatures of Egypt’s coast. Beaches become crowded and noisy during the summer and hotels will need to be booked well in advance.

Traveling to Egypt during March to September or September to November offers a great opportunity for those who wish to visit Upper Egypt and the coastline without having to deal with the stress of the large crowds.

You will also want to be aware of the month of Ramadan when making your travel plans. During this month, many businesses close during the daytime as Muslims fast all day. When night falls and the fast is broken, the nightlife becomes active and it can be very exciting. There is also an abundance of celebrations as well. The night time is a great time to experience Egyptian culture.
